Sublimation is a process, in which heat and pressure are applied to a solid, turning it into gas without passing through the liquid phase. In the case of printing, dye is transferred into gas and, in such a state of matter, it penetrates into the fabric, which it seems to become part of. Except for dyeing, sublimation is the only printing technique which does not display organoleptic properties. Preserving the sharpness and quality of your design is the key advantage of dye-sublimation printing. The limited number of surfaces, which can be used in this technique, is the main disadvantage. Dye-sublimation is applied to fabrics which contain a high amount of white polyester. A number of experiments have been performed to apply dye-sublimation to coloured fabrics; however, we are of the opinion that they failed.
